Seed and plant swaps are increasing in popularity, held by anybody from Garden Clubs to churches to permaculturists to musicians. One of my favorite seed and plant swap events is done biennially at The Witch and Ale, a brewery in downtown St Pete.
Jun Bustamente, and eclectic and talented local musician, brings a great selection of local musicians and artists together with permaculturists and other plant lovers to create a mini festival in the courtyard, where people can hear great music, enjoy art, hang out with each other and also learn about plants and seeds and take some home.
It’s a great community building event that we look forward to every year! And it’s a great way to introduce new people to permaculture plants.
Plant and seed swaps can be linked to another existing event, reducing the work of putting an event on. Permaculture convergences are well known for their plant and seed swaps, where you’ll often find rare plants that fill specific niches in local ecosystems.

Here's a simple way to get a plant exchange going, just put out some plants and a sign!
