Hands On Activity
Take a walk around your home or another building of your choice, and observe the different temperatures in different parts of your home. Where is it warmer, where it is cooler? Is there heat gain from the sun in the windows? Are there drafts coming into the house in some places?
This is a big subject, but you can get some ideas of how you might use some passive techniques to modify the temperature. If there is too much heat, Is there a place where windows could be shaded with plants or awnings or a covered porch or deck?
Where would shade be of the most benefit (the east or west sides are often the most vulnerable further south - in the north, the south side tends to be the most vulnerable)?
Is there a place where the sun could be used or welcomed more effectively when it’s cold to increase heat gain?
Put your notes in your journal.
