For instance, a wooded area could be kept wooded and used as a woodlot or wildcrafting, or overstory for a food forest. A stream would generally be protected by a riparian corridor of trees.
A large cleared area lends itself well to grazing animals, and could be fenced to accommodate intensive grazing. Fencing is relatively easy to change in order to align with other elements. One can use temporary fencing, like electric fencing, for grazing animals, for instance.
